Vaginal Skin Problems

Skin problems can develop all over the body including the area near the vaginal entrance (Vulva). Symptoms such as soreness, itching and intense irritation are common. The skin can also looked red and inflamed although in many cases there may be no visible signs of a problem.

There are a number of skin conditions which can cause problems with the Vulva. These include:

  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Lichen simplex
  • Lichen planus
  • Lichen sclerosus
  • Atrophic Vaginitis

Pain in the vagina can also be caused by physical problems such as vaginal prolapse, infection or oversensitivity of nerve fibres - a condition known as vulvodynia or vestibulitis.

Mr Hextall sees many women with Vulval skin problems and for many years ran a joint Vulval clinic with Dr Verity Blackwell (Consultant Dermatologist).
